One of the most unfortunate problems that we must deal with in this world is a difficulty with child abuse. It is something that most of us have a hard time wrapping our head around, especially if we never had to deal with it in our own lives. There are many people who try their best to help those who are going through such a difficulty and some of them do so in a rather unique way. That is the case with this group, and they are perhaps my new favorite people.
They are known as Bikers against Child Abuse (BACA) and it is a movement that is quite impressive in its history and its ability to make change. They try to support children who have experienced some type of abuse within their own family. Not only do they cover those who are going through emotional abuse, even those who have been abused sexually can fall under their umbrella of protection as well. They give those children an opportunity to trust somebody on the outside.
Trust is often a problem with individuals who go through abusive scenarios in their life. If often affects them on a very deep level and they may carry that distrust, even into their older years. This group tries to change that by offering something that they need, a trustworthy and reliable resource. They may look rough and tumble and they resemble more of a motorcycle gang than a group of responsible and caring individuals. Let me just say, however, don’t judge this book by its cover.
When children go through difficulties that they should never go through, being able to trust someone in power is a very important factor. These bikers are providing that resource and they are doing so in a way that many children and adults alike can appreciate.
